WHERE I HAVE BEEN
(THE PARTS OF THE SUM)

GENERAL UPBRINGING
I grew up in a Midland, Texas family whose members all worked in the oil and gas industry. I, too, worked in the oil fields of West Texas on a part-time basis until graduation from Midland High School in 1973.

UNDERGRADUATE EDUCATION
I attended McMurry College (now University), a small Methodist church school in Abilene, Texas, where I accumulated substantial hours in spanish, english, and theater before ultimately acquiring a history degree (summa cum laude) in 1976.

GRADUATE EDUCATION/LICENSURE
I thereafter enrolled in the University of Texas Law School, where I graduated in 1979. I clerked for a small firm whose practice ranged from representation of criminal defendants to handling general commercial matters. I also worked for Professor M. K. Woodward at the law school, ultimately being asked by him to teach a portion of a summer oil and gas course in his absence. I am licensed to practice in both Texas and New Mexico. In New Mexico, I am a recognized specialist in Natural Resources - Oil and Gas Law.

EARLY LEGAL EMPLOYMENT
I worked as an associate for two Roswell firms, one of whom had two other offices and over thirty lawyers, and the other being a somewhat smaller firm. My initial training was in the area of oil and gas law, which encompassed title examination, rendering of legal opinions, contract and other document drafting, litigation arising out of commercial disputes, and handling a variety of tasks incident to mineral property acquisitions and dispositions.

SUBSEQUENT EXPERIENCE
After first becoming a partner in 1982, I practiced in several small firms, but I have largely been in solo practice since 1988. My practice has expanded over the years to include the representation of financial institutions, agricultural interests, and a variety of small businesses.

FACILITES AND STAFF
My office is located at Pegasus Place, 125 West Fourth Street, in Roswell, a relatively old structure that I like to think has experienced a new sense of vibrancy. I christened the building in honor of the winged horse of ancient mythology and all things Greek (generally fun-loving folk). Three legal assistants work with me in my practice.

OTHER INTERESTS
I have served or presently serve as a board member of the Roswell Girls Club, the Eastern New Mexico Medial Center Foundation, Eastern New Mexico State Fair, and Chaves County CASA. I was president of the McMurry University Alumni Association and now sit on the University’s Board of Trustees. I at one time played an active role in the Natural Resources Section of the State Bar of New Mexico. I have taught seminars put on by the State Bar, the New Mexico Landmen’s Association, the Southwestern Association of Division Order Analysts, the Southwest Association of Legal Assistants, and the Roswell Legal Support Staff Association. I am a Rotarian. For several yeard, I coached the Dexter High School Mock Trial Team in state-wide competition, reaching the state finals twice.
