SUBSEQUENT EXPERIENCE
I attended McMurry College (now University), a small Methodist church school in Abilene, Texas, where I accumulated substantial hours in spanish, english, and theater before ultimately acquiring a history degree (summa cum laude) in 1976.
I thereafter enrolled in the University of Texas Law School, where I graduated in 1979. I clerked for a small firm whose practice ranged from representation of criminal defendants to handling general commercial matters. I also worked for Professor M. K. Woodward at the law school, ultimately being asked by him to teach a portion of a summer oil and gas course in his absence. I am licensed to practice in both Texas and New Mexico. In New Mexico, I am a recognized specialist in Natural Resources - Oil and Gas Law.
I worked as an associate for two Roswell firms, one of whom had two other offices and over thirty lawyers, and the other being a somewhat smaller firm. My initial training was in the area of oil and gas law, which encompassed title examination, rendering of legal opinions, contract and other document drafting, litigation arising out of commercial disputes, and handling a variety of tasks incident to mineral property acquisitions and dispositions.
After first becoming a partner in 1982, I practiced in several small firms, but I have largely been in solo practice since 1988. My practice has expanded over the years to include the representation of financial institutions, agricultural interests, and a variety of small businesses.
